Features of Diamond Mounted Point

  • High Durability. Compared to other mounted points, this mounted point has high endurance and durability and does not wear out easily, and can provide longer service life even in the long run. This is what makes it preferable for hard-rough and fragile materials. And because of its durability, production is boosted to its highest level by cutting down on dressing frequency and making changes on the wheel.
  • Fluid-Resistant. This tool is definitely a buy-to-go product because it is not susceptible to any chemical attack due to its fluid-resistant feature. This mounted point is very much suitable for grinding on a wet field.
  • Wheel retention and endurance. Another good thing about this tool is its ability to retain the original dimension of the tool while keeping an outstanding performance. This can be done even during a polishing and grinding process and other applications such as centerless, cylindrical, creep feed, deburring, and cutoff applications.
  • Compatibility and suitability. With its high grinding performance, this tool can be partnered with various materials such as cobalt, copper, mill, silver, and many more.
  • Complex Designs. You can request complex forms. The wear rates are low and are very durable than in other types.

Detailed Description of Diamond Mounted Point

This mounted point contains powdered metals and diamond compounds that are sintered in a wheel. This is what makes it a remarkably strong tool and keeps the shape even on a rigorous process. To guide you about this awesome tool here’s a detailed description of metal bond mounted points showing its range of benefits, applications, and advantages in various industries and work.

Product Specifications of Diamond Mounted Point

Just like any other mounted point, metal bond diamond mounted point comes in a wide range of sizes, shapes, and grit. Special customization of the tool’s dimensions can be done according to the client’s needs and requirements. Here’s a popular specification of Metal Bond Diamond Mounted Points available in the market.

Product Name Abrasive Material Shank Material Head Diameter Shank Diameter Total Length Grit Head shape

 Applications of Diamond Mounted Point

This mounted point tool is infused with diamonds that are combined and sintered with a specific substance of metal alloys used to provide excellent grinding performance for materials like sapphire, advanced ceramics, optics, glass, granites, tile, and many more. How does it work? The tool should keep on extracting the bounded metal bond and exposed the diamond particles which are the main weapon in the cutting process. This mounted point is highly recommended for grinding hard to rough materials especially those with a 45 to 75 Rockwell scale.

Here are numerous applications of metal bond diamond mounted points that are very commonly done in various work fields.

  • Like other mounted points, metal bond diamond mounted point is applied for particular grinding process especially for tough or hard crisp materials like granite, marble, jig, internal and precision grinding of small holes in carbides, glass, ceramics, sapphire, and superalloy.
  • This tool is mainly used for a specific grinding process like external grinding, plane grinding, and super hardness ferrite magnet grinding.
  • When it comes to tool grinding, it is useful for producing a driller, reamer, broacher, and a lot more.
  • Bearing, camshaft, crankshaft, transmission shaft, and redirector tools are some produced materials applied on this mounted point during the external grinding process.
  • When it comes to internal grinding, metal bond diamond mounted points specialize in creating shaft coupling, bearing, oil nozzle, derailleur, and various plane grinding.
  • This tool is also used to processed several materials like tungsten carbide, ceramics, glass, ferrites, powdered materials, and titanium graphite composite.
  • Various work areas also use metal bond diamond mounted points for various applications like metalworking, cylindrical, surface, cutoff, and tool & cutter.
  • Core drills, hole saws, reamers, dressing disks, and custom tools industries also use metal bond diamond mounted points.
  • For machinery, you can easily install this tool together with an electric grinder, engraving machines, hanging mill, and hand electric drill.

Advantages of Using Diamond Mounted Point

When it comes to grinding applications, this mounted point is the most recommended and used tool because of its wide range of advantages, especially in the manufacturing process. Its wide variety of advantages and benefits contributes a lot to various fields of specialization.

  • This mounted point tool works remarkably on several exteriors like glass, refractories, ceramics, silicon, semiconductors, and quartz.
  • It can provide a highly durable and long service life compared to other grinding wheels. This is what makes it ideal because of Its low-cost maintenance feature.
  • Metal bond diamond mounted points excellently fit on various work like tool cutting, glass grinding, ceramic grinding or form cutting, fine detail work, cutting, engraving, carving, finishing, jade grinding, and mold repair.
  • It can efficiently hold the shape of a material with its strong holding capacity and form.
  • Its durability is very evident because of the decreased time in dressing frequency.
  • This tool can work well under wet conditions or flood coolant because it consists of the hardest matrix.
  • It also has high material removal rate with the use of coolant substances especially on operations like creep feed grinding.
  • This mounted tool has excellent grinding performance especially on hard to rough materials such as hard alloys, ceramic materials, magnetic materials, glass materials, and many more.

How Diamond Mounted Point is Manufactured

When it comes to manufacturing this type of mounted point, there are three (3) different processes being done.

  • Cold press mode

A transition layer is being pressed during this process. The pressed transition layer has no diamonds while another layer that has diamond particles is being selected to form the body of the grinding wheel. The segments will be unified and attached to the body of the mounting point by using slots or teeth. Afterward, the mounted points will be cold-pressed and put in a sintering furnace. It will be sintered without pressing it.

  • Semi hot press mode

After cold pressing the mounted point, it is improved in this process by supplementing the sintering process. Throughout the grinding process, it is important to moderate the pressure and that is done by adding applicable mold. But you have to observe proper control when it comes to pressure. Any pressure applied on it should be less than the amount of pressure that is used in the hot press mode.

  • Hot-press mode

During this process, on an induction unit under preset pressure level, the diamond particles are sintered directly on the molds. After that, using a high-frequency laser welding or by applying the mosaic method of mechanical welding, the diamond segments are attached to the mounted point.

Tips on Using Diamond Mounted Point

To efficiently utilize this mounted tool, consider these tips:

  • To ensure high quality and performance on your outcome, it is very important to choose a suitable tooling material. Get to know the background application of the diamond tool you will be using. This will lessen the possibility of choosing the wrong tool.
  • When you are using the mounted point, check if the matrix is being worn out to exposed the diamond particles that will be used in the cutting process.
  • Check the hardness of the material when selecting suitable tooling. There’s no need to use the same amount of dust for grinding hard concrete. You can use fine dust for hard concrete but the opposite of it is applied on soft concrete. This will give you a lot of dust and higher grindings.
  • When you choose the wrong tooling, the first thing that might happen is that the machine might run but nothing happens in the process. Another thing is the diamonds might be too hard to cut due to the heat or glaze. This happens more on hard concrete. In other instances, the diamonds might wear out the tool quickly especially when it is cut too much.
  • To maximize the use of this tool, find the balance of the use of diamond and productivity by finding the “sweet spot”. This talks about the hardness of concrete materials. With this, it is very important to understand how each bond’s hardness works so you would be able to find the sweet spot. You can do this by choosing the appropriate diamond bond with the hardness of concrete.
  • The “rule of thumb” is used to understand the hardness of concrete materials. Try to remember the numerous bond types or matrix bonds such as a hard bond, medium bond, soft bond, and extra soft bond. For soft concrete, use a hard bond diamond. For medium concrete, use a medium bond diamond. For hard concrete, you can use a soft bond diamond. And for very hard concrete, an extra soft bond diamond is applied.
